Woodwork for Inventor V17 — Beyond Features
A Note from Our CEO
Every year we release a new version of Woodwork for Inventor.
And every year, we could talk only about features.
But that would miss the bigger point.
Because what we are really working on is not just software —
it’s a system for scaling engineering processes in furniture manufacturing companies.
The Real Bottleneck We See Across the Industry
Most companies don’t struggle with design.
They struggle with this:
Turning design into production-ready information — quickly, reliably, and repeatedly.
That’s where time is lost:
- Routine decisions
- Manual validation
- Inconsistent outputs
And that’s what limits growth.
Not machines.
Not demand.
But engineering throughput.
From Tools to Systems
For years, CAD/CAM tools helped engineers work faster.
Now the direction is different:
The goal is no longer to make engineers faster —
but to reduce how much they need to do manually.
This means:
- Moving from tools → to systems
- From manual decisions → to rule-based logic
- From individual efficiency → to scalable processes
What V17 Represents
With V17, we are deliberately moving in this direction.
Not by adding complexity —
but by removing unnecessary human involvement in routine work.
Below are the key changes that support this shift.
What’s New in V17 (Technical Overview)
Scripts — Automating Engineering Decisions
Until now, engineers had to decide:
- what data to generate
- when to generate it
- where to place it
With Scripts, this can now be automated.
Scripts allow you to:
- Analyze part data (dimensions, machining requirements)
- Apply company-specific rules
- Automatically generate and route outputs
Example use cases:
- Assign parts to the correct CNC machine
- Generate different BOM types (production, procurement)
- Automatically organize outputs
Impact:
- Eliminates routine decision-making
- Increases consistency
- Scales engineering capacity
Toolpath Visibility — Faster CNC Validation
Previously, CNC validation required full simulation.
Now you can:
- Export toolpaths into a sketch
- Visually analyze tool movement before simulation
Impact:
- Faster debugging
- Better control over machining strategies
- Reduced risk of errors
MultiDrill — Configuration Without Postprocessors
MultiDrill head changes previously required:
- Postprocessor modifications
- External support
Now configuration is handled directly in Woodwork.
Impact:
- Immediate adjustments
- No dependency on external changes
- Faster iteration
Improved Nesting — Better Material Utilization
Updated nesting algorithms reduce material waste.
Impact:
- Lower production costs
- Higher efficiency in cutting processes

Why This Matters
These are not isolated improvements.
Together, they address the same goal:
Reducing the amount of manual work required to move from design to production.
This leads to:
- Higher throughput
- More predictable processes
- Better scalability without increasing headcount
Final Thought
V17 is not just about new capabilities.
It is part of a broader direction:
- Less manual control
- More automation
- Stronger integration between design and manufacturing
We believe this is where the industry is heading —
and we are building toward that future.
